Message from Bob Towns
A Final Message from the Gathering Chairman:
As the cheques are being signed to pay the remaining invoices it is time to reflect on what I thought was a tremendous weekend. A weekend brimming with Queen's Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons) enjoying themselves in the company of fellow members of the Regimental Family. It went exactly as (no even better than) we, the Gathering Committee had planned. It went better because you all arrived in the correct Blue Mafia frame of mind and ready to enjoy yourselves. Your conduct, attitude and personal input over the weekend made all our hard work worthwhile. I believe that it brought us together again in a way that only we know and feel. I request that you keep this togetherness alive by joining and supporting a Branch of the Association and by communicating using our excellent website.
"And One For Cabarfeidh"
Yours aye,
Bob

From our Chairman Brig Nick Ridley
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of our Regiment
It is a time for celebration and we are planning the grandest of celebrations. On the weekend of the 11th and 12th June2011 we will be holding, in Cameron Barracks, what is likely to be our last major Regimental Gathering.
Plans are well advanced, with bands, caterers, drinks, tent etc.
We are hoping that you will manage to come and remember, relive and reflect on times gone by in the Far East, Germany, Berlin, Edinburgh, Sharjah, Belize, Hongkong, Falklands and of course Ireland. If the weather is kind it will be a great occasion
Regards
Nick Ridley
Message from Maj Gen Peter Grant Peterkin
The Gathering may be over, the marquees taken down but I very much hope that the memories of a brilliant weekend remain with all of you who were able to attend the event at Cameron Barracks.
Everybody will have differing highlights but for me they were the immaculate turn out of our own Pipes & Drums, their excellent playing on both days, the brilliant organization and perhaps the best of all, the chance to catch up with so many old friends and colleagues, some of whom I had not seen for years.
We all owe much to all those who made the Gathering such an undoubted success - Bob Towns, his energetic committee and the many other helpers who ensured that everything ran to the Queens Own Highlanders' high standards we have all come to expect.
To those who came thank you for adding to the party; to those of you who could not make it please keep in touch through friends, through this website and also through www.cabarfeidh.com and where possible support your nearest Branch of the Association.
Best wishes
Peter Grant Peterkin
Pipe Major Andrew Venters
A message to all Ex Seaforth, Cameron and Queen’s Own Highlanders pipers that are coming along to the Queen’s Own Highlanders 50th Anniversary Gathering.
If you wish to join in with the Queen’s Own Highlanders Association band for the first set we play you are very welcome to do so. All I ask is that your bagpipe is in good order and that you have had a look at the music for the first set in the News & Info page on this website.
We have also put up the tunes for the second set; this set will be for full band members only.
I look forward to seeing all the old pipers and drummers again, and I know it’s going to be a great gathering.
